Conservative MP Derek Sloan was expelled from the party congress

The vote followed the revelations. Sloan accepted a donation from a white nationalist

A majority of Conservative MPs have voted to remove Derek Sloan from the party’s caucus, according to sources unauthorized to speak publicly about the caucus business.

The vote follows revelations. Sloan accepted a donation from a white nationalist for his leadership campaign.

Party leader Erin O’Toole initiated the caucus removal process late Monday after news of the donation surfaced.

Sloan did not deny he received the money, but said he did not know about it and it was unfair to expect him to look into the backgrounds of all donors.

Sloan was first elected to riding Hastings-Lennox and Addington in Ontario in 2019 and ran unsuccessfully for the party’s leadership last year.

His socially conservative views were a thorn in the side of the party, and O’Toole had pressured him for months to kick him out to prove that the Tories are the moderate party claimed by the leader.
