The skies in Kelowna and Vernon are temporarily clear, says the meteorologist

Projected winds can start fires in the Okanagan and bring smoke into the area

Enjoy the clean air of Kelowna and Vernon while it lasts.

Clear skies and cleaner air quality are predicted for parts of today (August 4) in Kelowna and Vernon, but this is only a temporary respite. Projected winds can start fires in the Okanagan and bring smoke into the area. Environment Canada’s meteorologist Doug Lundquist recommends that people get outside and enjoy the clean air while they can.

“The real problem is when the fire season is over. We look to September and autumn. Until the fires are over, smoke and poor air quality are not over, ”Lundquist said.

The Central Okanagan region also currently has the cleanest air in the valley. Most of the Okanagan Valley is still shrouded in smoke.

“There is still smoke in the Okanagan and that won’t change anytime soon. We still see areas in the Okanagan with a 10+ on the Air Quality Health Index, ”Lundquist said.
