Peachland Mayor Cindy Fortin will be running again in the upcoming municipal elections.

Fortin announced on social media that she will be seeking a third term.

“Recently I’ve been asked if I was going to throw my hat in the ring again this election, and I thought, “just my hat?” Since I first ran for Council, and then for your Mayor, I have thrown my hat, head, heart, and entire self into this community that I cherish,” Fortin wrote on Facebook.

“So, the answer is “Yes”. It would be a privilege to continue to be your Mayor, and I am officially announcing my candidacy today and asking for your continued support.
“For the love of Peachland – my home and yours”

In her lengthy post Fortin writes that she believes in moderate development, not over development and adds that she would like to re-evaluate the Official Community Plan, in particular the provisions for building heights along Beach Avenue.

“At the same time, it is important that we must continue to attract young families, in order to ensure our community continues to thrive, without sacrificing its quaintness and charm,” she notes.

Other priorities laid out in her campaign announcement include updating the Water Master Plan, a new Protective Services building, affordable housing for seniors and young families and improved transit.

Fortin also pledges to continue to work with the higher levels of government, such as the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) to make safety improvements to the existing highway through Peachland, while keeping the possibility of a future bypass alive.

She has launched a campaign website. Voters can also contact her through her campaign email [email protected] or follow her on Facebook.
