The trustees of the Central Okanagan Board of Education receive a raise.
The trustees voted at the board meeting on April 28 to increase compensation by 0.7 percent based on the most recent BC consumer price index.
Effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022, the Fiduciary Fellowship is $ 21,802. for the vice chairman of the Education Committee $ 23,026; and $ 24,886 for the chairmanship.
Each school district is responsible for setting its own rate of compensation for trustees.

The annual general meeting of the School Trustees Association 2021 v. Chr., Held virtually April 15-18, 2021, included videos from public schools in central Okanagan that were shown during meeting breaks.
One video was a rendition of O Canada and the Okanagan song from Harmony Day 2016.
Another video was produced by the Rutland Senior Secondary School dance class entitled The Rainbow Project (link is youtu.be/m7dhPX_5UoQ).
In the 2019-20 school year, RSS dance teacher Jennifer Skogstad worked with her company dance class to prepare a dance video during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dance students performed their dance individually and a video was put together for the song Rainbows.
The third video showed the high-ranking jazz band Okanagan Mission Secondary, entitled Cotton Tail (Link youtu.be/HGc3DSaQr5A).
In the 2019-20 school year, Megan Frederick, Music Director at OKM, worked on a virtual project with her high-level jazz band during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Every student recorded their own pieces at home. The audio was then edited by Frederick to create a virtual performance.
The overall goal was to learn the new skill of playing / recording on a click-track. However, an essential aspect of the project was to keep the students connected by making music together.
Students performed Duke Ellington’s classic 1940 swing tune, Cotton Tail.

The Central Okanagan Board of Education has declared May 3-9, 2021 Mental Health Week in Central Okanagan Public Schools.

Parent Alena Cockwell said she was frustrated with the complications her son had in enrolling for kindergarten at Mar Jok Elementary School in West Kelowna.
Education Committee Chair Moyra Baxter sympathized with the overcrowded West Side problems affecting Cockwell’s child that several schools across the school district are facing.
Baxter reiterated the school district’s applause in advocating new schools and replacing or expanding existing schools.

The next town hall public meeting to include the community in the framework of an updated strategic plan for enhanced student learning will take place on Tuesday, May 4th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. via Zoom at sd23.zoom.us/j/67139343998.
The original strategy for 2018 is up for renewal this year and also follows an order from the Ministry of Education for all school districts to prepare an annual report that includes the district’s results in certain mandatory measures as well as the school authority’s approach to continuously improving student performance.

Higher social science students at École Kelowna Secondary had the rare opportunity to attend a virtual town hall forum with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland on Wednesday (April 28).
Students were invited to ask questions on issues that affect youth.
