A celebration of life is planned for a 19-year-old man killed in an explosive fire in West Kelowna.

David Hunt is remembered by friends and family as a bright light.

The fire broke out shortly after 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday and quickly spread to the house on Elliott Road. Hunt’s brother Aleck Villeneuve was flown to Vancouver General Hospital. Villeneuve’s friend Chiara Boehlke was also brought to the VGH.

“You have a very long and hard road to recovery. Aleck is currently in the intensive care unit under sedation because his burns are very serious, but his condition is stable. Chiara is awake but heavily medicated,” said Hunt’s mother, Amanda.

The Celebration of Life takes place on July 10th at 202 Drake Road.

“It will take all day for everyone to have a chance to come by,” read a Facebook post. “Everyone and everyone is welcome.”

Participants are asked to bring pictures or memories.

“Anything you want to bring is welcome,” says the article.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the investigations are being supported by the RCMP’s Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team.

“Thanks to everyone for showing their support in all of this,” said Amanda. “I am amazed at how much love is sent to us, and it is a great relief to know what an amazing support system we have at this terrible time.”
