A group of Canadian shopping malls, conference centers, and other commercial real estate has made room for COVID-19 vaccination centers in due course.

In a press release on Wednesday morning (January 20), commercial real estate association REALPAC announced that a similar initiative had been successful in the UK

“Activating vacant real estate as clinics for vaccinations or other medical services could reduce the logistical burden on hospitals and healthcare facilities,” said CEO Michael Brooks. “REALPAC members are keen to work with the government to use their unused spaces as vaccination sites or storage rooms for vaccines, vital equipment and medical supplies, which could greatly aid the introduction of vaccination.”

It’s unclear when mass vaccination will begin across Canada, especially after news that the Pfizer will be spending four weeks upgrading its manufacturing facilities in Belgium. Federal officials said Canada is still on track to get six million doses between the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and that their ultimate goal of offering vaccinations to all Canadians who want them by the end of September is still on the table lies.

To date, there have been 651,139 people in Canada who have received their first dose. BC vaccinated 92,369 people and Alberta raised 92,315 vaccines.
