One of the oldest buildings in downtown Kelowna continues its metamorphosis.
The building on the corner of Water Street and Lawrence Ave. has been working with a crane on the Lawrence Ave. side of the building about a month ago for months.
These photos show the interior of the building that was last home to the La Lupita restaurant, which had been completely gutted. The 1580 Water Street building housed a variety of shops including a 1910 Chinese restaurant and the keg.
According to the latest information, the 111-year-old building is being prepared for a new tenant. Mission Hill Winery in West Kelowna plans to open a new facility on the site of the historic Daily Courier building.
The Mark Anthony Group is working on the opening of a Liquor Primary / Retail Liquor Sales Zone that will house a wine bar, lounge, rooftop terrace, interpretation center, tasting room, education center, laboratory and wine store. The total capacity would be 625, including a roof terrace with 60 seats.
Since the building’s brick facade is considered historically significant, workers had to be careful to at least preserve the facade while much of the interior and the adjacent building were demolished.
