British Columbians booked more than 7,000 campsites on the first day
Reservations are currently only available to BC residents
British Columbians keen to explore their province this spring booked more than 7,000 campsites on the first day the system opened.
According to the Environment Ministry, just over 7,000 campsites were booked on Monday (March 8), bringing back memories of last year when the province opened camping reservations on May 25 after months of lockdown restrictions. The ministry said just over 4,500 of these reservations were made by 10 a.m., just hours after the system opened.
The opening of the campsite reservations came just one day after the provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, had indicated that COVID restrictions could be eased in the coming weeks.
While the Discover Camping website was slow at times and caused complaints on social media, it didn’t seem to crash completely. The province had warned in advance that it would be busy and recommended booking by calling 1-800-689-9025. Telephone reservations are $ 5.
Reservations are currently only available to BC residents. Visitors outside the province can start booking websites from July 8th. COVID-19 restrictions still apply and travel to regions outside of your own region is currently not recommended.
