The British Columbia government is basically approving a plan to allow WHL to reopen in the province
The league includes Kamloops Blazers, Kelowna Rockets, Prince George Cougars, Vancouver Giants, and Victoria Royals
British Columbia Minister of Health Adrian Dix said a plan has been approved in principle that will allow the Western Hockey League to resume operations in the province.
Dix said Monday that health officials are still calling for a “series of derogations,” but he expects the five teams in the league’s BC division – the Kamloops Blazers, Kelowna Rockets, Prince George Cougars, Vancouver Giants and Victoria Royals – do this games this season.
The teams in the other three divisions of the league have already been cleared for the game by the state and provincial governments and health authorities.
The start of the 2020-21 season was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The game finally began on February 26th with the league’s Alberta-based teams. The US Division teams are due to start on March 19, while the East Division, with teams in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, has been cleared for playing in a bubble environment.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League was the only league under the Canadian Hockey League that started its season at its traditional time. However, issues related to pandemics have resulted in several disruptions.
The Ontario Hockey League has not yet announced any plans for a season.
