The mother of a boy from Abbotsford, born when she was seriously ill with COVID-19, is still fighting for her life in the hospital.
According to the latest update on GoFundMe’s Family Support page, Gillian (Gill) McIntosh remains in an induced coma and on a ventilator at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
In the meantime, the baby born to her and her husband Dave was able to come home on Wednesday November 25th, two weeks after he was born on November 10th.
The couple were expecting their second child on November 25 – they also have a three-year-old daughter – but Gill was hospitalized and diagnosed with COVID-19 on November 6.
On November 10, her condition worsened to the point where she needed a ventilator to breathe, and the decision was made to deliver the couple’s baby by Caesarean section that evening while she was in a coma.

The baby, whose name was not released, was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit and was good enough to go home this week, but his mother’s condition has not improved.
“Gillian is very, very sick … The COVID-19 virus is still active,” says the GoFundMe update.
The page states that if Gillian is able to get off the ventilator, she is likely to have long-term complications and will not be able to return to her sales job with a Surrey screening device company.
“It can take many months before Gillian is released from hospital. Once she returns home, she is likely to have difficulty with daily chores, including looking after her young children, “the update reads.
It is also unlikely that Dave will be able to return to his job as a machine operator for a Langley company. The update says that his sister and her family will help him while he takes care of her daughter and newborn son.
A GoFundMe campaign to help families out with their spending had raised more than $ 78,000 on Thursday afternoon (November 26).
“Our entire family continues to be humble at the generosity of the entire community. I am grateful for every thought, prayer, message and donation, ”said Dave.
The campaign can be found under “Please Help This Family” on gofundme.com.
