BC records 30-50 new COVID-19 cases daily over the weekend, no new deaths

Many of these positive tests were identified through contact tracing to relate to other confirmed infections

From Friday through Monday BC, 131 new COVID-19 infections were registered, bringing the total number of actively confirmed cases to 445 as of Monday (August 10).

Nine of these people are battling the disease in the hospital, three of them in the intensive care unit or intensive care unit, confirmed the provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, in a press conference Monday afternoon.

Broken down by day, 50 people tested positive for respiratory diseases from Friday to Saturday, 37 from Saturday to Sunday and another 44 from Sunday to Monday.

There were no new deaths, so a total of 195 lives were lost related to the novel coronavirus.

Many of those who tested positive over the weekend were linked to previous cases, Henry said. Currently, contact tracing identifies 1,765 people who are in close contact with an infected person who is self-monitoring or in contact with public health workers.

There’s more to come.
