According to Dr. Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry reported 514 new COVID-19 cases to BC on Friday (Jan. 29).

The already turbulent long-term care situation has sparked a new outbreak in the Holy Family facilities in the Vancouver Coastal Health area.

“It’s been an isolated incident so far,” said Henry. “The investigation will start from there.”

Five new deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours. 292 people were in the hospital, 74 of whom are in the intensive care unit.

Of the new cases, 220 were discovered in the Fraser Health area, which has seen a significant decrease in infections over the past few weeks. There were 134 new cases in the Vancouver coastal region, 71 in internal health, 57 in northern health, and 29 on Vancouver Island.

Henry emphasized the resilience of British Columbians.

“We have adapted,” she said.

“This was an extraordinary and challenging year. All of our normal rituals have been thrown apart and put back together: everything from births to deaths, graduations and weddings. “
