Calling it a proactive move, the city of West Kelowna says sand and sandbag sites will soon be established for residents of flood-prone areas.

The city announced that the eight self-service stations will be set up across the city by Friday, March 12.

The stations are located in:

  • Gellatly Bay – Beechnut Park at George Court and Whitworth Road
  • Hitchner / Jennens – Hitchner Park on Hitchner and Jennens Streets
  • Glenrosa – Gates and Glenrosa Roads
  • Shannon Lake – Kinsmen Park, 3170 Shannon Lake Road
  • Rose Valley / West Kelowna Estates – next to Fire Station 33 at Westlake Road 1805
  • Casa Loma – 2606 Casa Loma Road
  • Green Bay – Falcon Park, adjacent to 1339 Green Bay Road
  • Pritchard – Sternwheeler Park, off 1649 Pritchard Drive

Spring road sweeps on the way

In other West Kelowna news, the city said street cleaning is starting ahead of schedule.

The city said contractors will start sweeping in the Gellatly and Goats Peak neighborhoods on Thursday March 11, instead of Monday March 15. The sweeping will then move to other areas starting at Pritchard / Green Bay on Friday March 12th.

“In the districts, signs are put up in advance informing residents about street sweeping activities. The crews are urging residents to park off-street between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm to ensure thorough street cleaning, “the city said.

The city also said: “While locals appreciate the pride you have in your neighborhood and your efforts to help clean up, please don’t throw debris on the street as it slows down the cleaning process.”
