The trial of a woman accused of setting fire to a pile of men’s clothing that caused more than $ 100,000 in damage to a home in West Kelowna has been postponed.

Codie Dobson was arrested and charged with arson in March 2018 after rescue workers responded to a house fire on Webber Road.

The crews arrived and found a pile of burning clothes and part of the house in flames in the back yard.

A local police officer told Castanet witnesses saw a woman start a fire in the back yard and fled the scene.

While Dobson was released on bail, she did not appear in court in May 2018 and an arrest warrant was issued against her. She was found and taken back into custody later that month, leading to additional charges of resisting an officer and double bail violations.

She was released again later that summer, and in January of that year she pleaded guilty to defying an officer and received six months probation. The Crown then dropped the injury charges.

Dobson was due to be tried in the Kelowna Supreme Court this week for arson, but the trial was postponed after Dobson changed attorney.

The case is still far from being finalized, a preliminary negotiation conference is scheduled for next June and a trial is expected sometime after that.
