A Kelowna gym that made headlines for its stance on masks and vaccinations has now been ordered to close.

The order, made under the Provincial Health Act, came from Interior Health Tuesday and is due to Flow Academy violating public health regulations.

This means that the fitness studio must stop all services, courses and other offers and that members or other residents must not be allowed to enter the premises.

“IH visited the Flow Academy on the evening of April 20 with employees from RCMP and City Bylaw to execute a search warrant and the operator refused to let us in,” said a health agency statement that is looking at additional enforcement measures.

“We issued a closure notice at this point based on continued non-compliance with public health regulations and non-compliance with a court-issued inspection warrant.”

<p dir=In addition to its stance on the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has also operated without a Kelowna City business license.

Lance Kayfish, the city’s risk manager, told NowMedia that the city fined the gym six times for operating it without a license.

According to Kayfish, the city worked on this file in collaboration with the health department.

<p dir=The Flow Academy website has a history of banning face covering in the gym and recently expanded its stance to include a ban on anyone vaccinated against COVID-19.

“This decision was made after much discussion with other health, wellness and fitness establishments across Canada (both public and private) and liability insurance companies,” the website said.

“Simply put, we are not responsible for the unknown health effects of the mRNA vaccines and the reported side effects such as virus shedding, seizures and death following administration of these vaccines.”

It added that the guideline would be reassessed “when the clinical trials of this experimental injection are completed in 2023”.

NowMedia’s requests to Flow Academy to comment on this matter have been ignored.
