Preparations for the widening of Kelownas Airport Way will begin next week.

The road expansion is the first phase of a multi-phase project to improve access to and from the airport.

Initial construction includes an additional west lane of Airport Way between the freeway and the Okanagan Rail Trail, a paved walkway, and new LED lighting.

Trees and bushes will be removed as part of the project, but will be replaced with new landscaping in the fall.

Future phases will focus on improving traffic flow and safety with airport premises through the construction of a roundabout on Airport Way and Lochrem Road.

YLW served a record of 1.89 million passengers a year ago and is also setting passenger records in 2018 compared to the previous year.
