Interior Health announced a COVID-19 case in a senior citizens’ home in Kelowna.

An employee from the Belgo department at Sun Pointe Village in Rutland has tested positive for COVID-19. While no residents tested positive or showed symptoms, Interior Health reported an outbreak at the facility.

“IH will continue to monitor the situation while taking additional infection control and prevention measures,” the health authority said in a press release. “Outbreak protocols have been implemented to protect the safety of all residents, including a temporary break in visits.”

Contact tracers will connect with people who may have been exposed.

Hard work has been done to keep residents and staff safe in all nursing homes, according to Interior Health, by monitoring all residents for respiratory symptoms and running COVID-19 tests to improve cleaning and ensure staff are only in one nursing home is working.

To date, no long-term care residents in a home in IH have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Sun Pointe Village has 100 publicly funded care beds. It is owned and operated by Baptist Housing Enhanced Living Communities.
