A garbage truck dumped a mountain of rubbish along McDougall Road in West Kelowna Monday afternoon.

The West Kelowna Fire Department arrived shortly after 12:30 p.m. to put out the fire.

“That was interesting. We couldn’t pinpoint an exact source of the fire, but it was something that was in the funnel where the garbage is collected,” said West Kelowna Fire Department chief Jason Brolund.

Brolund says most of the flames were extinguished while the trash was still in the truck.

“To make sure it was completely off, we had to empty the trash and then be 100 percent sure there was no fire residue,” he added.
