Film shot at Castanet

Another Lifetime Network film is being shot at the Okanagan, this time in Castanet’s Kelowna office.

The film, produced by Reel One Entertainment, transforms the Castanet office into a PR agency based in Portland, Oregon.

“It’s a little rom-com called The Sweet Life. It’s a cute little movie, and this is probably the seventh or eighth we’ve done here (at the Okanagan) this year,” says producer Costa Vassos.

Why was the Castanet office chosen as part of the film?

“On the outside, we have to keep up with Portland … the offices are amazing, the people are great. There are a number of office scenes, meeting scenes, it’s a PR firm, so we made this our wonderful set,” says Vassos.

The crews were busy all Saturday and filming is expected to be completed on Sunday evening. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Reel One has put in place security and disinfection guidelines to ensure filming is safe.

“After the pandemic broke out and everything stopped for a while, we really spent some time developing policies and procedures to protect the crew, the public and everything,” says Vassos. “We were the first in Canada to come back and do our little movies of the week and other rom-coms. We were very lucky and very safe. Everyone is wearing masks, social distancing – it’s a challenge, but so good so far.”

There are minimal cast and crew members on set at a time to reduce contact between sets and everything is cleaned up.

Filming for The Sweet Life ends December 1st and the film will air on the Lifetime Network next year. Reel One Entertainment will shoot 10-12 films at the Okanagan in 2021.
