They ranked first in financial literacy, entrepreneurship and youth development and third in Ecoliving Green. The four podiums earned the team $ 5,000 in cash prizes and three berths for the National Exposition from May 9th to May 1st.

Five Kelowna students won the Capital One Financial Education Challenge after impressing the jury with their award-winning CANSave project. The financial literacy project for elementary school students began in Kelowna last year and has since expanded to 80 communities across the country, affecting more than 6,000 students. CANSave founder Abbey Jones recently received the first BC Social Innovation Youth Award for her work on the project.

<p dir=“This is an absolutely fantastic result for our students,” said Roy Daykin, VP of Employee and Corporate Services. “We know firsthand the impact our students have on our community based on the quality of their work on projects like CANSave and Silver Surfers, but getting recognition in this competition confirms how relevant their work is.”

Enactus Okanagan College also won first place in the Scotiabank Youth Empowerment Challenge after showcasing the impact of the CANSave project.

“Regionals showed me that Enactus goes beyond my college, even beyond BC,” said team member Christianne Edblad. “The fact that OK students spend hours and hours of our time making the world a better place is a mystery to me. These are the qualities of the people I want to surround myself with and that’s why I love competitions. “

With the winnings, Enactus Okanagan College took home three cash prizes of $ 1,500 and one award of $ 500. They also fought for three places in the national competition for their first places.

“Achieving four podiums in the Regional Enactus Competition, including three first-place wins, is incredible testament to the quality of our students and the community projects they participate in,” said Kyleen Myrah, OC. “We can’t wait to showcase our impact on the community at the National Exhibition in Vancouver in May and we are so grateful for the support we have received from our institution and community.”
