With a general election expected to take place on Sunday, the parties are trying to nominate candidates before the lawsuit is dropped.

The NDP announced Thursday that UBC Okanagan student Cade Desjarlais won the nomination for Kelowna-Lake Country through acclimatization.

Desjarlais is studying political science in his second year at UBCO. A press release describes that he has an extensive background in social engagement, social justice, and leadership.

He is a member of the board of directors of the Studentenwerk and sits on both the finance and supervisory committees.

“One of Cade’s passions is advocating accessible mental health resources by serving on the Youth Action Advisory Council at the Foundry, with the Canadian Mental Health Association and Bell Let’s Talk,” the press release said.

“He also worked with Jack.org to help set up the first mental health awareness club in his high school. All of Cade’s diverse experiences and contributions, including his academics, were recognized by his university when they awarded him the Presidential Scholar’s Award. “

Desjarlais says the people of Kelowna-Lake Country have faced tough challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will have more to deal with after the pandemic ends.

“I promise that I will fight for support for the people who need it most,” said Desjarlais.

“We have a lot to do to rebuild our economy when this is all over. I will always make sure that the voices of everyone in Kelowna-Lake Country, especially those who often go unnoticed, are heard. “
