Stay in Okanagan

Just days before the long May weekend, Okanagan residents are being asked to stay in their health region to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Lisanne Ballantyne, President and CEO of Tourism Kelowna, says there are many opportunities for residents to keep us busy in our own garden.

“Think of it as support for local businesses and support for the local and experience tourism right here at home. There are ways to enjoy things like boat rentals, water skiing, or parasailing. With all of the water attractions, there are ways to enjoy it and still follow health protocols, ”Ballantyne said.

She also stressed that those who choose to go out and have fun over the long weekend should obey public health orders.

BC Prime Minister John Horgan said Thursday he didn’t want residents to get too upset about the possibility of restrictions being eased anytime soon or it could affect the province’s reopening schedule.

“When people hear that there is good news on the horizon, they assume that this horizon is now and that we have to get through this long weekend. It was created by Dr. Henry and her team carefully set up. The government worked to make sure we put in place a program that isn’t overly burdensome, but that will pass the test of reducing transmission, keeping people safe, and keeping as much of our economy open as possible. “

With temperatures reaching the low to mid twenties this weekend, the streets of Kelowna are expected to be busy. The British Columbia government will announce its reopening plans on Tuesday.
