UPDATE: 2:30 pm

The owner of the listed building says the move went well.

“I went in after we got it off the foundation. She’s a very solid girl so there wasn’t that much damage. Some plaster cracked,” said Shona Harrison.

The parade continues at 11 p.m. tonight

“We couldn’t do the whole move in one night. On the third and last day, it will be put on the foundation.”

She says the house will be relocated to a lot in southeast Kelowna.

Harrison says she bought the house six years ago.

“I spent two years restoring it. I never thought I’d postpone it. Over the years I have been approached by numerous developers about the property and they wanted the land but not the house. I wanted one Buy land and that’s how it became I realize that I can’t sell it and leave it there. “

“I’ve seen a lot of historic houses demolished. It’s a very special house and I wanted to keep it,” added Harrison.

UPDATE: 7am

A large gathering of emergency vehicles overnight on Richter Street in Kelowna was intended to facilitate the relocation of a historic home.

JN Thompson’s home has been relocated.

The timber-framed, two-story Queen Anne Revival house previously stood in large tree-covered grounds near the northeast corner of Richter Street and Sutherland Avenue.

According to the Kelowna City Heritage Site, the house was built in 1911 and is valued “as a fine example of the Queen Anne Revival architectural style, expressed by its asymmetrical floor plan and massive and highly articulated facades. The house is a late and” transitional example of the style which was built at a time when the classic revival styles prevailed. Local contractor George E. Ritchie was the designer and builder of this prominent home. It has survived in practically intact original condition and is particularly notable for the rarity of its style in Kelowna, its imposing size, and its grandiose setting on a large property. “

John Nelson Thompson (1870-1956) was a prominent citizen and businessman. He has been a tobacco grower, fruit grower in the Glenmore area, founding member of the Central Okanagan Land and Orchard Company, and partner in the Morrison-Thompson Hardware Store on various occasions.
