RCMP officers in Kelowna went out of their way to help a couple who were stranded in the backcountry this weekend.

The Vernon man and wife called the RCMP around 7:30 p.m. Saturday after getting stuck on a rural forest road east of Kelowna.

To make matters worse, he said his cell phone was about to die and they were extremely cold.

<p dir=Officers drove as far as possible to their reported location before exiting their patrol cars and hiking half a kilometer to find the couple in their vehicle.

They could wander back with husband and wife in the dark before getting home safely.

“We are very pleased that this situation has safely resolved,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

Noseworthy added that this is another example of the importance of knowing the conditions and being prepared for the elements before venturing out on an adventure.
