Two busloads of rescue dogs are leaving for Kelowna tomorrow for a weekend adoption event.

Embrace a Discarded Animal Society announced their return to Kelowna in March, saying they would bring a bus with about 40 dogs from Langley.

However, due to the overwhelming interest in the event, Embrace has decided to bring two buses with 65 dogs on board the Coquihalla tomorrow.

You will arrive at PetSmart in the late afternoon tomorrow where you will be met by 20 great Kelowna volunteers.

The dogs are led by the volunteers, which include seven residents who have already done a house check and will adopt a puppy over the weekend.

The event is open to the public on Friday at 9 a.m. Trish Leach, an event coordinator, says last year people camped out on lounge chairs on the sidewalk hours before the store opened so they could meet the dogs first.

Leach adds that they expect that to be the case this year as well.

Applicants can submit an application in advance of the event on the club’s website or in the store during the event. Selected applicants are interviewed and a home check is carried out before they are put up for adoption.

The non-profit organization is excited to give these puppies the loving home they deserve. And if you adopted a puppy at last year’s event, you’re encouraged to bring him along to say hello and show the rescue company how well he is.

The event takes place on Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at PetSmart Kelowna, 2024 Harvey Avenue.
