UPDATE: 6:25 am

Everyone got out safely when a shed fire spread to the attic of a house in Kelowna on Wednesday evening.

Platoon captain Scott Clarke says the Kelowna Fire Department responded to the fire in the back of a house on the 800 block of Coronation Avenue around 9:45 p.m.

The crews arrived to find a fully affected shed that had been exposed to the house by fire.

Firefighters quickly put out the shed fire, but it had also spread to the attic of the house.

“The crews launched an aggressive attack on the attic fire from inside and through the roof on the outside of the building and were able to contain and extinguish the attic fire,” says Clarke.

The residents of the house were informed of the fire by a neighbor and were able to escape unharmed before the arrival of the fire brigade.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is being investigated.

The Kelowna Fire Department responded with three engines, a rescue unit, a commando unit and 17 employees. RCMP, paramedics and FortisBC staff were on site.
