Fun fact: Chewbacca’s voice is a combination of different animals
In honor of Star Wars Day, here’s a fun fact about our favorite Wookie.
According to Ben Burtt, who served as the sound designer for most of the films in the franchise, Chewbacca’s voice was brought to life through the combination of sounds made by bears, walruses, lions, badgers and other animals.
“It’s a voice made entirely from animal sounds – mostly bears – and synchronized with the performance that’s being shot during the shoot,” recalls Burtt.
