Canada’s women’s softball team has secured a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The team, which ranks third in the world, clinched a 7-0 win over Brazil No. 17 in the American softball Olympic qualifier in Surrey, BC on Sunday.
Jenny Gilbert, Holly Speers, Jenn Salling, Kaliegh Rafter and Larissa Franklin scored a goal for Canada in the third inning.
Rafters Walk-Off Homer in fifth ended the game on the mercy rule.
Seasoned pitcher Danielle Lawrie was a strong presence on the hill for the Canadians. She threw eight strikeouts over five innings and allowed only one hit.
Samira Tanaka allowed six runs, seven hits and three walks for Brazil before being replaced by Fernanda Ayumi Shiroma in the fourth inning.
Tanaka did not allow hits in the single inning she pitched.
No. 5 Mexico secured a spot at the Tokyo Games on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Canada.

The number 1 Americans secured an Olympic spot by winning the 2018 World Cup, and number 2 Japan got a spot on the home team.
