RCMP has arrested a man allegedly responsible for a number of early morning crimes in Lake Country.

On September 9, just after 7:00 a.m., Lake Country forces responded to a report of arson that had just occurred in a house on the 2500 block of Robinson Road. Police learned that a male suspect believed to have intentionally started the fire was chased off the scene by a resident of the house.

The Lake Country Fire Department was present and successfully put out the house fire.

Police believe their fire suspect, last seen escaping into an orchard, stole a pickup truck that later crashed on Lake Hill Road in the Lakes subdivision. Once again, the suspect fled the scene on foot.

“Just minutes before 9 a.m., Mounties went looking for the 13,000 block on East Ridge Drive after receiving multiple reports of a suspect that matched the description of their suspect, hoping for fences from local residents “said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “With the assistance of the Kelowna RCMP, members of the Lake Country RCMP were able to locate and arrest the male without further incident and before entering a wooded area.”

RCMP is continuing its efforts to uniquely identify the male suspect who is currently in police custody and faces multiple possible charges.

“All criminal investigations continue as the Lake Country RCMP continues efforts to gather evidence linking the crimes,” said Cpl. O’Donaghey.

Anyone in the area who has been a victim anyway, whether they have been threatened by a man or have suffered property damage and have not spoken to the police, is encouraged to contact the Lake Country RCMP.
