VANCOUVER – Kelowna City Hall was devastated for the second time in less than a month with news condemning restrictions related to COVID-19.
The most recent vandalism occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Memorial Day, according to a press release from Kelowna RCMP.
A photo of the graffiti shared by Castanet.net shows Remembrance Day messages sprayed on the side of the building, including the phrases “So we don’t forget” and “We want our freedoms back”.
The previous vandalism occurred on October 27th when someone used black spray paint to write on the town hall page, “Not a new normal, COVID is a plan” and “COVID has a 99% survival rate, economic collapse is not”.
Kelowna RCMP hasn’t said whether they believe the two incidents are related, but the subjects of the news and the medium in which they were expressed are similar.
Mounties said Wednesday that they are looking for “someone of interest” on the matter. They posted a surveillance photo of the man they described as about six feet tall and slim. He was wearing torn blue jeans, a balaclava and a black winter jacket with a hood, the police said.
Anyone who recognizes the man or has information about the vandalism is asked to call Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Tips can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
