The West Kelowna Advisory Planning Committee will take a closer look at a large senior housing estate on Saddleback Way.

The city’s APC typically reviews applications and makes recommendations before they arrive at the council table.

Your recommendations and comments are just that and are not binding on the council.

The development put forward by New Town Architecture and Engineering would take place on 3.5 acres in the Smith Creek area and part of the Broadview Neighborhood Plan.

The proposal envisages 107 units. The employees compare it to a “residential hotel” with supporting services such as food preparation, laundry, transport, care or cleaning as well as independent living units, outdoor areas and recreational and hobby facilities.

According to a planning report, this type of housing is currently only allowed in certain areas of the city, including the Westbank Center and downtown commercial areas that are closer to amenities.

The property on Saddleback Way also offers apartments up to three stories or nine meters high. The proposal before the committee concerns four stories or 12.98 meters.

The APC will meet on Wednesday to discuss the proposal.
