A Kelowna DJ raised more than $ 17,000 through an online fundraiser the day after he was diagnosed with cancer this week.

Wesley Kormos, a musician and DJ from Kelowna known as Wes Please, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia this week, Amy Williams told GoFundMe.

He was immediately flown to Vancouver General Hospital and started chemotherapy yesterday, January 8th.

He is expected to continue treatment for the next 12 months and move closer to Vancouver. His father will be his full-time supervisor and both will be unemployed during this time, so they expect significant financial burdens for the next year, Kormos wrote on his GoFundMe page.

“I’m young, healthy, positive, and full of willpower. Not to mention the amazing support from family and friends. Ultimately, that’s going to get me through this challenge of my life,” wrote Kormos.

The fundraiser will help them pay for treatment, medicine, transportation, housing, food and supplies, “and support has been coming in by the minute with no sign of slowing,” Williams said.

As of January 9, GoFundMe has raised $ 23,000. The Kormos donation page is available online.
