The Incredible Hulk smashed his way through Kelowna this week when Lou Ferrigno, who played the original Hulk back in 1977, posed for Christmas photos with fans at the Kelowna Film Studios.
“I like to put a smile on people’s faces, especially when it’s getting close to Christmas and the holidays, it’s a big celebration,” said Ferrigno.
“Especially when you’re over here, you see the snow and it brings me memories of Christmas. Especially now when I’m standing here with all these presents, and it reminds me that I have to go Christmas shopping as soon as I get back home.”
A Kelowna man who’s been obsessed with The Hulk since childhood couldn’t believe the back-to-back Mr. Universe was in town, jumping at the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet his longtime idol.
“This is by far the best gift I think anybody has ever given to me,” said Jon Corbett.
“I canceled all my afternoon appointments even though they were very important to my future career, I guess. I canceled them all to do this because I just found out about it two hours ago, my wife surprised me, and she knew how much he meant to me.”
Ferrigno says he’s been in talks with the head of Marvel in the past about a potential return to the big screen, but that he’d prefer to try something new.
“I would definitely like to play a character like Nick Fury, like Samuel L. Jackson. Something unique, something different because I’ve already done my part as the Hulk, so something that I could be integrated, be involved in with different comic book characters,” said Ferrigno.
Although it was a quick visit to Kelowna, Ferrigno says the highlights were meeting passionate fans, the great hospitality, and of course, the incredible wine.
