KELOWNA – It was a very emotional episode of Masterchef Canada as the remaining contestants were reunited with their families for the first time in weeks.

The tears started flowing immediately as the home cooks learned they would be cooking for their loved ones.

At first, they were only told they’d be cooking for a family of 12.

“Right now I’m kind of thinking it’s the judges’ family. There are three judges. Four people each. It makes sense so I’m really nervous about that,” Kelowna real estate agent Kaila Klassen said on Monday night’s episode titled, Family Style.

“And the family you will be cooking for is your own,” said judge Michael Bonacini.

Classes gasped and wept as her parents walked across the Masterchef kitchen to give her a hug.

“I want to win this today for my parents. They’ve given me so much drive and they’ve made so many sacrifices for me. I want to win this so bad for them,” she said.

The team challenge was to cook steak medium rare with steak frites and béarnaise sauce.

It turned out Klassen’s fries underwhelmed the judges, but she was saved by Mike Green’s rare steak. He was eliminated and she moves on in the competition.

It’s down to the final four when Masterchef Canada hits the airwaves on Monday, April 21 on CTV.
