Holiday homes raise money
The Central Okanagan Hospice Association held their home for the Holidays fundraiser Saturday – an event showcasing some of the nicest homes in Kelowna, all covered in decorations ahead of the holiday season.
“This event has been going on in the Okanagan for a number of years, and we are just thrilled to bring it back in-person after two years of virtual,” said Natasha Girard, executive director of the Central Okanagan Hospice Association.
“We have done a Wilden neighborhood takeover, so we have six private homes on the tour, we have the Wilden Living Lab, and we have three showhomes.”
Homeowner Michelle Ebert was inspired to get involved by attending previous Homes for the Holidays events, so she opened her door this year to help give back.
“Christmas can be a really dark time for people that lose their loved ones, so my theme in the house is making spirits bright. If we can shed a little bit of light in dark times, then that’s what it’s all about … and we’re doing this for a great cause,” said Ebert.
The Central Okanagan Hospice House is expecting between 700 and 900 people to tour through several different houses, with all ticket sales going towards improving services through COHA.
“Everyone in the Central Okanagan have huge hearts. I would say every time we go out to ask for something or to ask people to join us to do something, the generosity of people is beyond measurable. We become overwhelmed at times … we’re just over the moon,” said Girard.
Through the Homes for Holidays tour, the Central Okanagan Hospice Association is aiming to raise $80,000.
