FULLER, William Edward – Kelowna Obituaries

William, affectionately known to his friends as Bill, passed away in his sleep in the early morning of Aug. 29, 2022 at Brandt’s Creek nursing home. He died at the age of 92.

Bill had a full and fulfilling life, he was born in Ocean Falls BC to Arthur and May Fuller. His family moved to Vancouver, BC when Bill was seven years old. As a child Bill enjoyed helping his dad and particularly enjoyed fishing. While in high school, Bill got a job parking cars at Woodward’s. This led to his strong interest in mechanics and eventually he took a course in mechanics and after that a successful apprenticeship he secured a position with the Vancouver School Board. Bill met his wife Irene Tone in 1984 while he was on a visit to Swift Current, Saskatchewan. They married September 29, 1949 and were blessed with three children, two sons and one daughter. They moved to Kelowna in 1974 where Bill worked with White Trucks company, Joe’s Excavating and later Parks Canada until he retired in March 1990.

Being mechanically inclined Bill was often called upon to help others get their vehicles repaired. He was always willing to offer his expertise and lend a hand to those who needed help.

Bill loved fishing and spent many hours in his boat on Okanagan lake alone with his dog, or with family or friends. He and Irene also loved camping so they would spend many summers at Tween the Lakes Campground in Oyama in their trailer. They also owned a camp spot in Yuma, AZ which they became Snowbirds to for a number of years. Because of sharing and passing down their love for nature, their children grew up loving the outdoors and activities that the entire family enjoyed.

Bill was also noted for being a handyman, a jack of all trades. He was an active member of Evangel Church and when the church embarked on their major renovation in 1998 he was there with the other men tearing down walls and building new ones. Bill also helped many people with plumbing and electrical problems. He loved to help others, regardless of what the challenges were.

Bill was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he always made us smile with his wonderful sense of humor and zest for life. He will be sorely missed.Bill was predeceased by his wife in 2018 and his son Gary Fuller in 2021. He is survived by his two children Donna Fuller of Kelowna BC and Harvey Fuller of Coquitlam BC. Also his brother Roy and Barbara, the grandchildren Michael, Kristin, Cynthia and great grandchildren as well.

When dad slowed down, he enjoyed frequent regular visits in the nursing home from his daughter Donna and she took him for car rides to Peachland, McKinley Landing and Idabel lake which he enjoyed while he could still get into the car. When he was no longer mobile Donna and friends visited frequently which lifted his spirits and brought much peace and joy to his final days….

“Rest in Peace Dad, we love you, we will miss you but we shall meet again one day. The kingdom of heaven is a place of righteous peace and joy which you have earned – enjoy the rewards for a life well lived. You are gone but will never be forgotten. Your legacy, love and joy lives on in the hearts of those you have touched and blessed. Amen.”

The family also wishes to thank the wonderful nursing staff at Brandt’s Creek Mews for making his final journey comfortable and for their compassionate care.
