Record high new cases

The Interior Health region saw a record high of 99 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases in the region to 758.
While the nationwide new daily case numbers have stabilized relatively in the past week, the daily case numbers in the interior of the country have continued to rise steadily. A total of 2,601 positive tests have been carried out in the region since the pandemic began.
20 people with COVID-19 have been in the hospital since Friday, at one since Thursday, while the number of people treated in the intensive care unit has fallen by one to four.
After two more COVID deaths occurred inland last weekend, there have been no new deaths in the area in the past few days, although the number of COVID deaths has risen sharply in the lower mainland. Six inland residents have died of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
After a huge surge in cases announced on Thursday, the outbreak at Oliver’s McKinney Place nursing home grew by just one case on Friday. There are now 27 residents and 14 employees who tested positive in the nursing home.
Meanwhile, the Kelowna Mountainview Village outbreak remains at seven cases, while the Pentictons Village outbreak at the station remains at three.
Interior Health also stated that the clump of cases in Revelstoke should be included after 50 cases were identified in the city in the past few weeks.
