23-year-old arrested for armed financial institution theft in Kelowna

A 23-year-old Kelowna man was arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery of a bank in the area.

According to RCMP Cst Kris Clark, Tayler Verhaegen is in police custody in Kelowna and faces two charges, including robbery and covering his face with the intent to commit a crime.

On December 23, a man entered the Bank of Montreal in the parking lot of the Capri Shopping Mall and asked for cash. He flashed a knife; zip the doors shut and then escaped on foot with an unknown amount of cash.

Photos of the suspect were released to the public and have been arrested since Verhaegen. He has since appeared in court in Kelowna. No one was injured in the armed attack.
