$ 15,000 worth of designer sunglasses stolen from Okanagan’s store

Forty-four Maui Jim sunglasses were stolen from a store in Vernon’s Village Green Shopping Center

An estimated $ 15,000 worth of sunglasses were stolen from a Vernon store in the Village Green Shopping Center Thursday night.

Clara Mainville, manager of Iris Optometrists and Opticians, announced on Facebook Friday morning that the theft occurred on March 25 at 7:30 p.m.

The store is located in the Vernon Mall without the storefront facing out. The mall closes at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. It is unclear how the thief got into the store after hours, although malls tend to keep exit doors open after hours for customers to do their shopping.

A showcase near the shop entrance had been broken into and cleared out.

Forty-four pairs of Maui Jim sunglasses, priced between $ 200 and $ 900, were stolen. The perpetrator was wearing a face mask and could not be identified on security video.

Mainville said the footage also caught nearby viewers while the robbery took place.

“And may I add, while he was tearing my case apart, buyers were walking by as if nothing was unusual.”

Mainville urged residents to watch online buying and selling groups for the products.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is investigating and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the department at 250-545-7171.
